  7. Take 1/4 tsp Urad dal

  12. Take To taste salt

Well-seasoned and crispy yam fry goes well with rice and sambhar/rasam. Elephant yam fry is an unusual combination of basic ingredients that yield a spicy, tasty side dish. Take a sauce pan and add in the yam pieces. Add in salt, turmeric powder and tamarind pulp.

Steps to make Elephant yam roast:
  1. Remove the skin wash well and cut into small pieces. Add salt turmeric powder and tamarind in water. Boil and add the yam. Half cook for 5 minutes.
  2. Drain and set aside. Deep fry in oil till crisp about 3 minutes only. Remove into a bowl.
  3. To this add salt, red chilli powder and garam masala. Mix well.
  4. Heat oil in pan add mustard seeds and urad dal after it cracks add curry leaves and crushed garlic.
  5. Now add the marinated yam and roast in medium flame for 10 minutes.

Take all the ingredients for the masala in a bowl. Add water and make into a thickish paste. Take the yam pieces and coat in the masala on both sides. Yam can even be used to make a spicy elephant yam fry like you see in the first picture or a simple ghee Pepper roast that you see below, much suitable for kids. If you avoid green chilies, it makes a best side dish for kids.
