Githeri (Gĩtheri), also called muthere or mutheri, is a Kenyan traditional meal of maize and legumes, mostly beans of any type mixed and boiled together. The maize and beans are mixed together in a sufuria or pot, water is then added and the mixture boiled until the food is cooked and ready to eat. Githeri is the staple food of the Gikuyu, Meru and Embu people in the Central Province of Kenya.

Githeri is one of the most well liked of recent trending foods on earth. It’s appreciated by millions every day. It is simple, it is fast, it tastes delicious. They’re nice and they look fantastic. Githeri is something that I’ve loved my entire life.

The ingredients needed to make Githeri:
  1. Get Pre boiled githeri
  2. Get Tomatoes, onions, garlic, Tangawizi, black pepper
  3. Prepare Some oil and water

Githeri is a corn and bean one pot meal which originated from the Kikuyu tribe of Kenya. It is also known as muthere or mutheri. It is traditionally prepared with dry beans and corn, however, to prepare this amazingly delicious recipe, I used canned beans and frozen corn for ease and convenience; so, it is perfect for those times when you need to whip something healthy up quickly. Githeri is a traditional kenyan dish of which the name derives from the Kikuyu people of Kenya.

Steps to make Githeri:
  1. Fry onions till they are golden brown add garlic then ginger let them cook, add your tomatoes and black pepper.. add some water.. allow the tomatoes to cook
  2. Add your githeri and let it cook covered in medium heat.
  3. Serve and enjoy

It is however eaten all over Kenya and is also know as Mutheri among some Kenyans. This typical kenyan stapple food consists mainly of beans and mais, but can be served with some extras.
