  2. Take raw rice

  1. Wash and soak 1 cup of green moong dal with rice and urad dal for overnight in enough water
  2. Drain and add the moong dal along with ginger, green chilies, cumin seeds, curry leaves, coriander leaves and salt in a blender and blend to a smooth batter by adding some water
  3. The consistency should be similar to a dosa batter
  4. Heat a dosa pan on medium heat and spread the batter evenly on the pan.
  5. Drizzle oil around the dosa and cook both sides a couple of times till crisp and browned.
  6. Note: This pesarattu dosa can also be made with spilt green gram or sprouted moong dal. If using yellow moong, then you can soak the lentils for 1 to 3 hours

Pesarattu dosa can be made with whole moong beans or split yellow moong lentils. I usually make Pesarattu dosa with both whole green moong dal and the split husked yellow mung lentils. The dosa made with yellow moong lentils has a texture similar to the North Indian Moong Chilla. Whereas the ones made with whole moong beans taste a bit different. Pesarattu or Moong dal Dosa is a savory crepe made with whole mung beans (green gram lentils).
