Pesarattu is a thin breakfast crepe made with green gram, ginger, cumin & chilies. Pesalu or Pesara is the Telugu name for green gram & attu translates to dosa pesarattu dosa is one such famous dosa from telugu cuisine but has spread all over south india. i was exposed to this recipe from my mother who spent her college days in guntur. even though her stay in guntur was very brief, but she has developed a great taste for andhra veg cuisine and especially pesarattu. Pesarattu dosa can be made with whole moong beans or split yellow moong lentils.

The ingredients needed to make Pesarattu Dosa:
  1. Make ready soaked moong dal
  2. Take chopped ginger
  3. Get salt
  4. Take soaked rice
  5. Prepare chopped green chillies
  6. Get refined coconut oil

It is a healthy, tasty and whole some dish which is enjoyed with upma and allam chutney (ginger chutney). Moong dal is my husband's favorite lentil. I have shared a lot of recipes using green moong dal like Moong Dal Masiyal, Moong Dal Upma, Moong Dal Vadai, Moong Dal Sambar to name a few. Pesarattu dosa is made with moong dal.

Steps to make Pesarattu Dosa:
  1. Soak rice and moong together for around 3-4 hours. If you are using the whole moong, soak for at least 6-7 hours because the whole moong takes a while to soak completely.
  2. When the dal is soaked, grind it to a thick paste along with chopped ginger and green chilies. Do not make the batter too thin. Add little salt as per your taste.
  3. Pre-heat the dosa tawa, once it is hot enough smear oil on to it and spread it evenly. Take a katori and spread the rice and dal batter evenly on the dosa tawa starting from the center. Apply a teaspoon of oil around the dosa and wait till the edges turn golden yellow.
  4. Flip the dosa to the other side and let it cook for a while, not more than a minute. Transfer the dosa to a plate. Have it along with upma or coconut chutney.

This dosa does not need fermentation like the traditional dosa. With a little planning, breakfast or dinner can be made in a moments notice.
