Tomato Gotsu/gothsu/Kothsu is my favorite side dish for Idli next to tiffin sambar. I have already posted tomato gosthu recipe which is Amma's version. This tomato gotsu recipe, I learnt from my MIL who is from Chidhambaram side. She makes everything traditionally and perfectly.

Steps to make Tomato gostu:
  1. Pressure cook tomato and green chilies for whistle in high flame
  2. Chop onion, coriander leaves and curry leaves
  3. Grind the tomato and green chilies along with some cocount
  4. Heat oil in a Kadai, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and mustard seeds should crackle and splutter.
  5. Add onions and curry leaves and saute it till it turns brown in colour
  6. Add tomato paste then add turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt in it and mix it well
  7. Cook it in medium high Flame for 5 - 7 minutes and garnish it with coriander leaves

I love both the versions each one unique on its own way. Onion Tomato Gotsu or simply called as Thakkali Kosthu is a side dish that's served with idli, dosas and pongal that's popular in my native Kumbakonam and Tanjore. Some also call it as Quick Thakkali (Tomato) sambar as it gets done very quickly especially when you have guests at home and this one can feed a crowd. Tomato Gotsu Recipe also known as the Thakkali Curry is a quick and easy to make, spicy and tangy tomato gravy you can prepare for a change as a breakfast accompaniment or even as a side dish along with Ven Pongal, Khichdi, Paratha or Dosa. Tomato Gotsu that is packed with simple flavours from roasted baby onions simmered along with tamarind and sambar powder giving it that delectable taste.
