  1. Get 1 cup Upma (Tomato / any flavour)
  2. Make ready 3 cups Rice Flour
  3. Get 1/2 cup Besan
  4. Prepare 2-3 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  5. Prepare 2 teaspoon Carom seeds / Ajwain / Vamu (crushed/ powder)
  6. Take 2 tablespoon Hot oil
  7. Get 1 teaspoon or as per taste Salt
  8. Take as needed Oil to deep fry

Sago Murukku is a unique and interesting murukku variety, I saw this first in Nithis space when she posted it and bookmarked it too. So I used her recipe as base for the sago,rice flour measure alone and tried this murukku, it came out super good, very crispy that even mittu who is not fond of murukku varieties. was munching this. Carefully slide murukku in oil and deep fry in medium to high flame until light golden brown or bubbles ceases. DH is not a big murukku fan but he likes butter murukku very much as it has perfect blend of softness and crunch, if you planing to make snacks for Diwali then you should try this as this is very easy and gives great results.

Instructions to make Upma Murukku Savoury Snack :
  1. In a dry mixie jar, make a smooth paste of the already prepared upma. Do not add water while preparing the paste. Also ensure that the tempering used in upma preparation is also turned into a fine paste.
  2. Transfer the paste to a bowl. Add the rice flour, besan, red chilli powder, hot oil, salt and crushed carom seeds to it. Mix well to form a smooth dough similar to the usual murukku dough.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai over a low flame. In the meanwhile, grease the murukku mould with oil & fill the mould with the dough.I used the 3 hole disc to make this murukku. Press it in a circular motion to make murukku. You can squeeze the murukku into the hot oil directly.
  4. Fry the murukku until golden brown. With the help of a slotted ladle, turn & fry the other side carefully. Once it is cooked the sizzling sound stops. You can now transfer the upma murukku into a serving plate.
  5. Repeat the same process for the rest of the dough.
  6. Upma murukku can be stored in an airtight container for a week. It stays fresh and crispy when stored at room temperature. Tastes good when served at 5pm with tea/coffee.
