Murukku recipe - Murukulu or murukku is a deep fried Snack made with rice flour and dal flour. Chakli, chakuli, chakralu and jantikalu are the other Indian names to these. There are so many varieties of murukku, the one I am sharing here is a basic, very old and standard recipe that is followed by many South Indian women.

Murukku is one of the most popular of recent trending foods in the world. It is simple, it is quick, it tastes yummy. It is appreciated by millions every day. Murukku is something which I’ve loved my whole life. They are fine and they look fantastic.

The ingredients needed to make Murukku:
  1. Get 1 cup Rice flour
  2. Make ready 1/3 cup Urad dal flour
  3. Prepare to taste Salt
  4. Take 1/2 teaspoon Hing
  5. Get 1 1/2 teaspoons Cumin seeds
  6. Get 2 teaspoons Sesame seeds
  7. Prepare 2 tablespoons Oil + more for deep frying
  8. Get 1/2 cup Water

Butter murukku recipe - also known as benne murukku, benne chakli or venna murukku. Murukku is a deep fried crisp snack made with rice flour and gram flour. These are eaten through out the year and is most commonly made during festivals. Butter murukku is a lighter version of the traditional murukku or chakli.

Steps to make Murukku:
  1. Take all the ingredients except oil and water in a bowl and mix.
  2. Now add oil and mix with your fingertips, so oil is incorporated well.
  3. Next add little water at a time and keep kneading the dough till it comes together and becomes soft, non-sticky dough.
  4. Now grease the murukku press machine and dish with oil and feel it with prepared dough.
  5. Now on a chopping board or parchment paper, start shaping the murukku by making the swirls and pinch the end to seal.
  6. Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat. Once hot slice few shaped ones carefully in and fry till they are slightly browned and crispy. Do turn them for even browning.
  7. Once ready, remove it using slotted spoon and place on paper towel lined plate.
  8. Let it cool down completely before storing or serving.

These are very light, crunchy and have a nice flavor of butter.
