  2. Take 5 tsp Red chilli powder

There are so many varieties of murukku, the one I am sharing here is a basic, very old and standard recipe that is followed by many South Indian women. There are so many variations of making murukku using sago, besan, wheat. Take the murukku press/ chakli maker with round shaped holes or star holes as you wish. Fill the dough and press to make shapes.

Steps to make Murukku / Chakli:
  1. Keep all ingredients ready. Boil the water in a vessel. Meanwhile mix jawar flour, besan flour with red chilli powder, ajwane, salt, cumin seeds, seasme seeds, ghee, asafetida. Put the hot water on the jawar flour mix and knead the dough. If required add little normal water while making dough.
  2. Heat the oil in a kadai. Meanwhile take little portion of dough. And fill in the murukku presser. And press it over oil greased pepper or plate in desired or in circular ring shape. Put it in hot oil one by one.
  3. Deep fry murukku/chaklis on both sides on sim heat. Once it done and crisp remove from oil and transe to serving plate. Murukku /Chaklis are ready.

Remember to cover the unused dough with a wet cloth always. It helps to prevent the drying. Press the murukku in the back of ladle.
