My father was full blood Serbian. My father was a very good cook, although I never got to know him well. I remember him cooking chicken paprikash for me as a little girl. I just recently decided to check out some Serbian recipes since this is my heritage and try them.

Steps to make Serbian Moussaka:
  1. Cook the potatoes with the skin on
  2. Once the potatoes are cooked, prepare the minced meat with two finely chopped onions, add salt, pepper and vegeta to the mix.
  3. Peel the potatoes and cut them into half centimeter rings and arrange half of them to the bottom of your oven dish, follow up with a layer of minced meat and finish it off with another layer of potatoes from the top.
  4. Overflow the oven dish with water and put it into a heated oven at 250° Celsius until the potatoes starts to brown.
  5. In the meanwhile you should be preparing the sauce: beat two eggs in a bowl, add 100-150 ml of milk, Vegeta, salt and pepper. Mix until combined and put it all over the Moussaka.
  6. Put it back into the oven for 15 more minutes and enjoy it with some bread and yoghurt!

I never knew there was even such a thing as Serbian cooking but to my surprise, there is! I am going to have fun with this. Potato Musaka is much beloved in the Balkans, especially in Serbia. She's quite similar to her somewhat sloppier cousin, Eggplant Moussaka which can be found all over Greece (and originates from there, too). A yogurt and egg mixture bind together the real superstars: gently fried onion, ground pork, and potatoes.
