Peel and finely slice the onions, roughly chop the tomatoes and deseed and finely slice the chilli. Put everything in a pan, season to taste and stir well to combine. Pour into a sterilised jar and leave to cool. Tomato chutney is a traditional South Indian condiment made with tomatoes, spices and herbs.

  1. Heat oil in a pan add panch phutan.
  2. Then add ginger, green chillies and curry leaves stir and mix well.
  3. Add diced tomatoes, turmeric powder Salt,peas, chilli powder stir and mix well and cover and cook it on medium flame until the tomatoes are smooth.
  4. Then add dates and sugar and some water mix well and cook for 3 minutes.
  5. Add grated coconut and mix well.
  6. Turn off the flame serve in bowl.
  7. Garnish with some grated coconut.

It is usually served with South Indian Breakfast dishes like Idli, Dosa, Pongal, Rava idli & many snacks. But don't limit it to accompany South Indian foods!
